LEFT BEHIND | Dolls recovered from forgotten fairytales
Not all lost things wish to be found.
RECOVERED OBJECT NO. 004
Bracken is a one-of-a-kind, handmade textile art doll from my Left Behind collection, a series of peculiar creatures that might once have belonged to children from fairytales you have never heard.
Made from fabric, individually hand-painted and dressed in aged scraps of cloth, Bracken bears painted bones, a watchful face, weighted hands and feet, copper-coloured antlers and a rather solemn sun upon his chest. Gold thread binds a damaged limb, evidence of a repair whose origins remain undocumented.
Each doll has its own imagined history, recorded on an accompanying archive card.
