Hallow | No. 011
LEFT BEHIND | Dolls recovered from forgotten fairytales
Some things are lost. Others are deliberately hidden.
RECOVERED OBJECT NO. 011
Hallow is a one-of-a-kind, handmade textile art doll from my Left Behind collection, a series of peculiar creatures that might once have belonged to children from fairytales you have never heard.
Made from fabric, individually hand-painted and dressed in tattered scraps of cloth, Hallow is a very ghostly white stag. He has painted bones and weighted hands and feet. His body bears curious markings and evidence of repairs, some of which may not have been entirely conventional.
Each doll has its own imagined history, recorded on an accompanying archive card.
EXTRACT FROM THE ARCHIVE
NAME: Hallow
CREATURE: Stag
BELONGED TO: Edmund Rookwood
MISSING SINCE: 1887
RECOVERED: 1921 inside a sealed wooden chest in the grounds of Blackthorn Hall
NOTES: Edmund claimed that Hallow had been given to him by a stranger in the woods. Edmunds father recognised the stranger from Edmunds description, although the woman had been buried 20 years earlier.
ALTERATIONS: Enchantment on lower limb
THE OBJECT
Hallow is entirely handmade and individually painted, with carefully chosen fabrics, distressed details and hand-finished embellishments. He is also scented with ‘Ancestors’ from The Haunts Curiosity Shoppe.
He arrives in his own presentation box, nestled in black tissue paper, accompanied by a numbered identification tag and handwritten archive card detailing his mysterious past.
An original, one-of-a-kind piece of textile art. No two dolls in the collection are alike.
Box dimensions: 30cm x 8cm x 8cm
Please note: This is a collectible artwork intended for adult display only, not a toy. It contains small and delicate components and is unsuitable for children.
A note on photography: All artworks are original, physical pieces, designed, created and hand-painted by me. Some product photographs have been digitally enhanced using AI to adjust lighting, atmosphere and backgrounds. The artworks themselves are entirely handmade and have not been AI-generated.
